Why Team Tournaments Are Different: The International Team Tournament Experience

There is something different about a team tournament.

Individual events are about your army, your games and your result. Team events add another layer to every round. Every game matters, but so does what happens across the other tables. You are not just fighting for yourself: you are fighting alongside four teammates.

That is what makes the UKTC International Team Tournaments so special.

Five Players. One Team. One Result.

The format is simple: teams of five players face another team, with each player bringing a different faction. Captains decide the matchups, the games are played, and the combined results determine which team takes the round.

But anyone who has played a team event knows that the experience is anything but simple.

You can win your game and still need to watch the other four tables. You can lose a difficult matchup and suddenly find yourself surrounded by teammates working out how to recover the round. A narrow victory on one table can completely change the pressure on another.

Every game matters.

And every teammate matters.

It Is Competitive Warhammer, With Something Extra

The best part of an ITT is the atmosphere.

You arrive with your team. You play together. You discuss matchups between rounds, celebrate the big wins and commiserate over the games that got away.

There is a constant sense that something is happening.

Five games are being played simultaneously across your team, and every result changes the picture. The tension builds as the round comes towards an end and teams start working out whether those final points will be enough.

That makes the ITT feel less like five individual tournaments happening next to each other and more like one enormous game being played across hundreds of tables.

But You Don't Need to Be a Top Player

One of the best things about team tournaments is that they aren't exclusively for the elite.

You can bring your clubmates.

Your regular gaming group.

Your school friends.

Your local community.

Or simply four people who want to spend a weekend playing Warhammer together.

The team format gives everyone something to play for. Experienced tournament players can chase the top tables, while newer players get to experience competitive Warhammer surrounded by teammates who have their back.

And because you are playing as part of a team, your weekend isn't defined by a single result.

There is always another table to watch. Another teammate to support. Another round to fight for.

The Summer I.T.T. Is Almost Here

The Summer International Team Tournament is just around the corner, taking place 8–9 August at Beauchamp College in Leicester.

Hundreds of players will come together for two days of competitive Warhammer 40,000, community, hobby, food and the unique atmosphere that makes team events so special.

If you’ve got a ticket, get ready. Five players. One team. Every game matters.

And if you missed out on the Summer I.T.T., don't worry... the next one is already on the horizon.

Don't Miss the Winter I.T.T.

This is something the UKTC has continued to build on.

The International Team Tournament series is now one of the biggest team tournament circuits anywhere in the world, bringing together players from clubs, communities and countries to compete in a format that rewards both individual skill and collective performance.

The Winter I.T.T. takes that idea to another level.

Our latest Winter I.T.T. is moving to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham, one of the UK's largest and most prestigious event venues.

The scale matches the ambition.

With capacity for more than 875 players across 175+ teams, the NEC will become the stage for the world's biggest Warhammer 40,000 team tournament.

And that is exactly where we want the ITT to be: bigger, more ambitious and capable of bringing even more of the community together.
