The Windsor Super-Major saw nearly 250 players start, but only 2 players remained undefeated across all 7 rounds that they played. Both piloting the Ultramarines with some very similar choices, this article is going to take some time to break down the undefeated lists from the weekend and what makes them such a threat when played to this level.
Our undefeated players were Nassim Fouchane and David Gaylard, their lists are:

The Core
Straight of the bat you will notice some similarities between the two. Both are playing Blade of Ultramar detatchment with Marneus Calgar, this allows the powerful ability to repeat doctrines. Army wide buffs that will give access to: Advance & Charge / Advance & Shoot / Fall Back, Shoot & Charge. With a very strong suite of stratagems to support this, both these armies are incredibly hard to slow down and disrupt.
Both feature 3 Ballistuses and 2 Repulsor executioners, representing some truly overwhelming firepower. Comboing with the devastator doctrine to advance and shoot, with a stratagem to stack +1 AP and Ignoring cover to remove most targets very simply. Whilst being incredibly durable with high toughness, 2+ armour saves on the ballistus and Toughness 12 for the repulsors.
The differences
Both also feature Marneus Calgar and Victrix Guard to provide some brutal close combat proficiency. This is where we see the differences start to creep in, Nassim has gone very heavy into the Victrix - using 2 x 6 teams and Uriel Ventris for added utility and flexibily, wheras David only has a small squad to escort Calgar in favour of running Guilliman for even more utilitiy and damage with a second oath of moment target and a vindicator for more dakka.
The Ventris package is incredibly strong as it allows a rapid ingress threat thanks to the deepstrike ability that Uriel hands out, allowing a rapid response to a threat as it develops, but also the Lord of Deciet aura provides significant disruption to stratagem support and utility, well able to swing a game in a single move.
The play pattern
Both of these lists have a broadly similar playpattern, quite expected given the similar core. They will look to anchor the centre with their melee strength as the guns push to the flanks and leverage their range threat until the gap closes. This sets up for a strong castle in the Large L in the middle before an all in in turns 3/4.
If positioned correctly, these castles can be almost imposible to crack and even for those that can manage it they will take more than a pound of flesh as cost for doing so. It is no suprise that these elite gunlines perform well over the weekend as they can readily apply concentrated force into single targets or spread wide and skirmish across the entire line.
