The Newcomers Edge: How to make the most of a UKTC event.

How to maximise your weekend at the winter i. t. t.

It is just a matter of hours now until the UKTC Winter I. T. T. kicks off at the Sports Connexion Lesiure Club, Coventry.

And it's not just "a big event" it's the worlds largest 40k teams tournament, with over 750 players convening to do battle and crown the champion for this massive competition.

Over 150 teams, 29 factions, and 100+ clubs. A truly ridiculous concentration of ranked talent all in one hall.

So, if you're newer to teams or the UKTC in general this is the article for you. Learn some of the best tips and tricks ahead of the weekend to make sure you're fully prepared to get the most out of your time.

Your Winter ITT gameplan: 10 things to give you the edge

1) Know your role, not just your list

At teams events, “good into the meta” isn’t enough. You need to know what your list is for:

We covered this in previous posts looking at the different roles and how they fit into the team, understand your role within the team and how your list wants to operate.

Write down:

  • 3 matchups you want

  • 3 matchups you don’t want

  • your realistic scores into each of those matches, remember teams is about pushing a differential - not just scoring your own points.

That exercise alone will help give your captain the confidence they need to win the pairings game.

2) Get your admin squared away early

There is nothing worse than turning up and not knowing where your rules are, what your table is, and who you are supposed to be playing.

Do this before you travel:

  • Make sure you can log into BCP

  • Check your name/team details match

  • Update your rules app and make sure your list is quickly findable

3) Pack ahead of time

We have previously published a checklist to help you here - and for good reason: “I forgot X” is the fastest way to ruin a round.

  • models + spares

    • Make sure that your army is ready, ensuring it is fully battle ready before you go. Not only does it add a level of cohesion to the army but also removes any chance of models being removed for not being complete

      • if you are unclear on the requirements for this please see our rules.

      • for the official games workshop guidelines, see here.

  • dice, tape, tokens, objective markers

  • rules + references (digital or printed)

  • water bottle (seriously)

  • charger/power bank (especially if you are travelling overnight)

4) Arrive on time and set up clean

Doors open at 9am, and everything is clearly signposted.

Your goal: be at your table with time to breathe, the round starts at 9:30.

  • confirm terrain/mission expectations quickly - it can be especially useful to set up the terrain even before your opponent arrives.

  • check your army survived transport

5) Check in with your team

After the pairings have done, take a few minutes to check in with everyone, see how they feel and what the expectations are for the round. This will give you a good gameplan from the off when you start rolling dice:

  • confirm scoring predictions and where it can go wrong

  • check if people know their match ups, ask your specialist for some last minute tips.

  • establish a clear communication and check in process to update the captain.

6) When something’s unclear: call a judge early

UKTC judges can be identified by black & white striped jerseys, and you can also use QR codes on the table to request a judge. They are there to help you - there is nothing wrong calling a judge and its usually the fastest way to resolve a question.

  • don’t waste 10 minutes debating a rule. Get the answer, play on, keep the round moving.

7) Between rounds: refuel and reset

The Super-majors are a marathon weekend - and the room is packed with talent. If you want to stay sharp:

  • drink water every round - we have water stations throughout the hall to help this

  • eat something small between games - keep your energy up

  • take 3 minutes off your phone and just reset

8) Feed your captain useful information (not just vibes)

During each game make sure you tell your captain:

  • result prediction

  • chance of it going better / worse

This helps the coordination, remember that teams isn't just you trying to win your game, it's your entire squad working together, if you have a low-risk push to get some extra points that means that your blunter can play even safer and not risk a bad blowout.

9) Enjoy the scale, you only get this at UKTC events

This is the highlight of the teams calendar with squads coming in from all over. Walk the hall. Watch other tables. Meet people. Take photos. This is the weekend that feels like the teams scene in one place.

10) If you didn’t get a ticket, make sure you're ready for the next one

The next ITT is sold out, but there’s a waitlist - email contact@uktc.events to join it.

Save the date for the Summer ITT - Tickets go on sale 27th March 2PM. Last year it sold out in a day, don't miss you chance again.

Final reminder: this weekend moves rankings, reputations, and makes stories

UKTC’s own preview framed this as one of the most stacked weekends of the season — with huge roster depth and top-ranked players in the mix.

So if you’re attending Winter ITT this weekend, don’t just “turn up and hope.”

Turn up prepared. Play your role. Back your captain. And enjoy the biggest teams atmosphere in the game.
