Essential Tournament Checklist: 8 Things I Make Sure To Take To Every Event

So you have brought your first event ticket, and you have your army ready, you're practised, packed, and ready, but you can’t shake that feeling that you’re missing something?

Well, there are some other things you know you need, and some things you might not know you need.

This post goes into detail for EVERYTHING you should and could take to an event to make sure you have the best time! Including a printable checklist to make sure you don’t miss a thing!

I have been to 100’s of tournaments and Warhammer events, and to this day I am still using the same checklist each time, no matter if it is a small 12-man RTT or the Biggest event in the world, the LGT.

You may think some of these may be obvious, but trust me when I say it is so much better to spend the time checking you have them than turn up on the day and not have them. (Forgetting your army happens much more often than you’d expect!)

The CheckList:

  1. Your Army

This might feel like an obvious one, but it is never a bad idea to use your submitted army list as a checklist and go through and physically touch each model & unit you are taking! This is also a good time to check that everything is up to the required painting standards for an event.

  1. Army Transport

When you have all your models, you need some way to transport them, there are plenty of options out there that can suit an entire range of budgets and armies, but the main thing is having a secure and easy way to move your army around - this will help keep you organised and allow you to move between tables at an event to spend more time doing what really matters!

The ways of transport are as varied as the armies themselves!

  1. Rules & References

Not only to ensure that you are playing the right rules, but also to have as a handy reference for your opponent in case something needs to be checked. These can be digital for your army rules and rosters, and for specific factions & Tournaments, bookmark/print the relevant FAQs (The UKTC ones can be found here.)

  1. Water Bottle

Hydration is super important to keep both mental clarity and physical performance. A full day on your feet is no easy ask for your body, and it is very easy to forget to keep hydrated whilst you are focusing on the game.

The UKTC team keeps dedicated water stations at all our events and ensures that they are topped up to ensure that everyone has ready access.

We also have additional drinks for sale, such as energy drinks, soft drinks, and more, to allow you to enjoy the day and get that boost when you need it!

  1. Food

Alongside staying hydrated, it is important to keep the energy up throughout the day. All UKTC events have catering on site, so you are able to buy snacks and lunch over the break, one less thing to pack, and it's always nice to have a hot lunch after a round!

  1. Game Aids

There are many things that make life a bit easier to play at the table; some are required, and some are nice-to-haves. The good news is that if you need to replace or forget any of these, we do have a selection for purchase available from the desk, whilst stocks last!

  1. Objective Markers

  2. Dice

  3. Tape Measure

  4. Widgets & Tokens

  5. Chess clock

  6. Score sheet or app

  1. Deodorant

Standing and walking around for hours a day is hard work, and sometimes it can be quite warm in the halls with so many players. I’ve always found it refreshing to be able to top up throughout the day.

  1. Comfy Shoes

Perhaps my biggest tip of all (saving the best till last as it were), make SURE you have comfy shoes on, especially if you're not used to spending that much time on them, your feet will thank you if you get some good sturdy footwear.

  1. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I hope it was useful for you and you feel that much more prepared to take the leap and attend your first tournament - I hope to see you at one of ours!

If you would like, you can find a Digital Checklist here

You can save or print a copy to use to make sure you have everything you need to make your event a success!

Now What?

Hopefully now you feel prepared and ready to travel knowing that everything you need is where it should be! Is there anything specific that you like to take to events that I havent mentioned? Please share it in the comments below!
