Two New Level 1 Judges Join the UKTC Team
A strong judging team is about more than knowing the rules. It is about experience, communication, fairness, and a genuine desire to help other players have a great event.
That is why we are delighted to welcome Mike and Will as our newest Level 1 Judges.
Both have already made their mark within the UKTC community, but they have taken very different routes to this milestone.
From the top tables to the judge's desk
Mike has been part of the Judge Programme almost from its very beginning. He was the second judge we ever onboarded, joining the first intake after the programme launched at last year's London Grand Tournament.
For those who know Mike as a player, this won't come as a surprise. He is a highly skilled competitive player and is a familiar sight around the top tables, usually accompanied by his Tyranids.
That experience of playing at a high level gives Mike a valuable perspective when stepping into the role of a judge. He understands the pressures of competitive games first-hand and can now use that experience to help other players navigate their own tournaments.
After working through the programme and gaining experience on the UKTC judging team, Mike has now earned his Level 1 qualification.
A champion for the community
Will's journey into judging comes from a different direction.
Based in Nottingham, the home of Warhammer, Will has long been one of those people who seems to be everywhere an extra pair of hands is needed. He has built a reputation for looking after attendees at our events and consistently going above and beyond to help make tournaments run smoothly.
That community-first approach is a huge part of what we look for in our judges.
The Judge Programme gives people like Will the opportunity to take those existing skills and combine them with formal training and experience in competitive event judging. Having completed the requirements, Will now officially joins the Level 1 ranks.
Building the next generation of judges
Mike and Will are great examples of the different experiences that can make someone a valuable judge.
Whether your background is at the top tables, in your local club, or simply helping the people around you have a better experience, there is a place for those skills within the programme.
Level 1 is an important step in the journey, but it’s only the beginning. Both Mike and Will will continue to build their experience at UKTC events as they work towards the next stages of the programme.
