With pairings now live for the first round of the Sheffield Super-Major 2026 we really start to feel the anticipation build. The meta is still settling after a recent slate but there are some continuing trends and some new factions seeing spikes in popularity.
This article is going to look at a few players that I have picked to keep an eye on and expect to be seeing at the top tables this weekend. First lets take a quick reminder of the overall faction spread:

At a Glance
Space marines, Necrons, and Astra Militarum are the most popular and widely considered strongest factions. Being very closely followed by Orks, Custodes, and the freshly deployed Twin Lance weilding Tau Empire.
The recent slate has changed some things but the generally speaking, the C'tan remain a problem and Ultramarine combined arms remains the strongest way to approach a dominant midboard meta. Now lets take a look at some of the top players at this event.
Innes Wilson (Tau Empire)
Innes' List
Commander in Enforcer Battlesuit (95 points)
• Enhancement: Strategic Conqueror
Kroot War Shaper (75 points)
• Enhancement: Strike Swiftly
The Twin Lance (160 points)
Broadside Battlesuits (270 points)
Crisis Fireknife Battlesuits (120 points)
Kroot Carnivores (65 points)
Kroot Hounds (40 points)
Kroot Hounds (40 points)
Pathfinder Team (90 points)

Riptide Battlesuit (200 points)

Riptide Battlesuit (200 points)
Stealth Battlesuits (100 points)
Stealth Battlesuits (100 points)
Vespid Stingwings (65 points)
Innes looks to take down his 3rd Super-Major title in as many events this weekend. With a run like that it would be hard to bet against him. His list plays a very fast gunline that can apply tons of pressure from the off. Mont'ka providing the ability to advance and shoot in the first 3 turns makes this Tau list incredibly fast and hit incredibly hard. Rounded out with plenty of screening and scoring units will be able to dominate the engagement and control the tempo.
Theo Hayat (Necrons)
Theo's list
C’tan Shard of the Deceiver (295 points)
C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer (325 points)
C’tan Shard of the Void Dragon (320 points)
Hexmark Destroyer (75 points)
Nekrosor Ammentar (185 points)
Technomancer (100 points)
• Enhancement: Dimensional Sanctum
Canoptek Doomstalker (140 points)
Canoptek Doomstalker (140 points)
Canoptek Doomstalker (140 points)
Canoptek Wraiths (220 points)
Flayed Ones (60 points)
One of the rising stars in the UKTC, Theo is a name that many people will recognise. Consistently appearing at the top tables and looking to do so again with the Canoptek Court Necrons. Combining the durability of Wraiths and C'tan with a strong gunline of Doomstalkers. This list is about as subtle as a bag of rocks, and will simply roll over many armies before they can get through the stat check. Doomstalkers provide a slightly more consistent damage output with lower cieling than the more commonly seen doomsday arks, but thanks to the benefits of this detatchment are a good flex to provide the firepower as required.
George Leathley (Space Wolves)
George's List
Arjac Rockfist (105 Points)
Bjorn the Fell-Handed (160 Points)
Lieutenant with Combi-weapon (85 Points)
Logan Grimnar (110 Points)
Wolf Priest (70 Points)
Intercessor Squad (80 Points)
Fenrisian Wolves (40 Points)
Scout Squad (70 Points)
Scout Squad (70 Points)
Thunderwolf Cavalry (230 Points)
Wolf Guard Headtakers (170 Points)
Wolf Guard Terminators (170 Points)
Wolf Guard Terminators (340 Points)
Wulfen with Storm Shields (200 Points)
Wulfen with Storm Shields (100 Points)
The Sanguine Spanners are a team that have long since been simmering just below the surface of massive UKTC success, a team that consistently puts up scores and players that perform under pressure. George is one of these, approaching the game with a very controlled melee aggression list, a Space Wolves specialist for most of this edition, he knows this list backwards and forewards. This list loves a brawl and getting up close in the centre ruins, with enough speed to chase down either flank with access to advance and charge and auto-advance 9" on the thunderwolves. making this list incredibly hard to screen out effectively.
Scott McCutcheon (Astra Militarum)
Scott's List
Cadian Castellan (55 Points)
Cadian Castellan (55 Points)
Cadian Command Squad (65 Points)

Kasrkin (110 Points)
Krieg Combat Engineers (60 Points)
Krieg Combat Engineers (60 Points)
Krieg Combat Engineers (60 Points)
Scout Sentinels (55 Points)
Aside from testing if there is a length limit to these expandable lists, this list is very interesting - horde guard has always been a build, but more recently surged to popularity, and to many players at the top level is arguably the strongest list in the game. With enough damage to pull down targets, its strength lies in the board control and primary denial. A very strong suite of stratagems backs up a solid detachment rule, meaning that a very significant investment is required to kill even the cheapest of the throwaway units, which, if you don't kill them fully, have access to model regeneration and will soon be back to full strength. This list will look to deny any scoring from the opponent's primary game whilst consistently scoring itself, though it can fall foul to some bad matchups on poor missions. If the opponent can connect and start to work through the larger bricks, it can get dicey quickly, so a well-practised pilot is required to play this list to its best, especially in the timeframe required.
And Many more...
That is all we have time for today to look at, but there are many more names I could talk about. With so many big names this weekend we are sure to see some good pairings and fireworks!
